Nana is a deaf senior lady who used to spend her life on the streets of Bucharest, near a newspaper kiosk. This was until May 2012, when a hurried driver hit her and left her dying in the middle of the road. One full day had passed yet nobody seemed to care. No one looked interested in taking her off the pavement. It was an AWW angel that saved her and transferred her to the clinic. Of the past 1 year and half, Nana spent 1 year and 2 months in the vet clinics. Nana’s story can be a lesson of life for all of us and AWW angels’ commitment is something to deeply admire. After the accident, Nana got hurt on 2 legs, both on the same side. The frontal leg couldn’t be saved and it was amputated. Her only chance to survive was to get the back leg saved. And here the trauma began. Within 15 months she suffered 10 surgeries, tens of x-rays and counted hundreds of treatment days. Due to a bone infection, the surgeries did not succeed until a miracle happened. Doctor Lucian Rugina was Nana’s last hope. After more than 1 year of pain and deep trauma, Dr.Rugina found the way to fix her leg through a long and difficult surgery. He also found the right treatment for the bone infection. You will see below, in the event content, the long way of saving Nana in pictures and X-rays. Now Nana is learning again to walk by using three legs, after she lay down for such long period of time. AWW spent for Nana’s treatments and surgery more than 5,000 euro from their own pockets. Having now Nana out of risk, AWW is telling the story hoping to touch people and to promote this lesson of life.
