Nanih Waiya Day Ceremony at the Mound tomorrow August 8, 2014 - TopicsExpress

Nanih Waiya Day Ceremony at the Mound tomorrow August 8, 2014 beginning at 10:00 am. NANIH WAIYA DAY first proclaimed and celebrated on November 14, 2008 with 1,000 Choctaw physically making the journey to the Nanih Waiya Mound. Since then attendance has been around 150 to 200 Choctaws. Rather than growing this celebration, it is going to get lost unless us grown ups make it an important journey to this place of origin along with our children. Nanih Waiya Day is the first and only real Choctaw holiday and whether we are in agreement with current leadership or not, it should not get in the way of showing up for our ancestors who kept this tribe together and moving forward and that we are proof that as long as the grass grows and river runs there will always be Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians. Happy Nanih Waiya Day!!! ....Make that journey to the mound, hope to see more Choctaws there.
