Nanjundappa recommendations: work to continue With the gazetting of the four notifications providing quota for the local candidates in education and jobs in the six districts of the Hyderabad Karnataka region as per Article 371(J) of the Constitution, the question of the status of the report of D.M. Nanjundappa Committee on Regional Imbalance is engaging the attention of the State government and political parties, especially with regard to the continuity of the development programmes in the region. To a query on the issue at a press conference here, Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj H.K. Patil said that according to the Nanjundappa Committee report, there are 26 most-backward taluks in the region. He promised that the work taken up by the government would continue. Asked whether it would not amount to duplication, especially when a board under the chairmanship of Governor H.R. Bhardwaj has been constituted, the Minister admitted that it may need discussion. Mr. Patil said that while the Planning Department would be the administrative department to take forward the Hyderabad Karnataka Regional Development Board, the Education Department would be in charge of Karnataka Educational Institutional (Regulations of Admissions in the Hyderabad Karnataka region) Order 2013 and the Karnataka Private Unaided Educational Institutions (Regulations of Admission in the Hyderabad Karnataka region) Order 2013. The administrative secretaries of various departments would take action to implement the Karnataka Public Employment (Reservation in Appointment for HKR) Order, 2013 in the departments concerned. Similarly, the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms would coordinate with the other departments with regard to reservation in employment.
