Nanoparticles: Nano silver in athletic clothing may be absorbed via mixing with your sweat. Nanoparticles are extremely small (nanosized) particles that can have different properties than their larger forms, from wavelength reflextion (appearing to change colors), antibacterial, and can be absorbed through the skin and then the blood/brain barrier. Safety or risk is unknown. As a member of the National Organic Standards Board a few years ago, we passed a recommendation that identified nanoparticles as different from larger particles of the same substance and that all nanopartices, even from Agricultural origin as "synthetic", which in organic lingo means that are prohibited in "organic" unless specifically allowed. The NOP agreed with our recommendation but it has not yet been implemented in the federal regulation.
