Naples/Bonita/Marco residents: "We need immediate donations and long term pledges. On Friday, the Florida Department of Environmental "Protection" approved two oil wells in Golden Gate Estates: an oil well and a pollution "disposal well". We have 21 days to respond to stop these wells from polluting our aquifer. These wells are less than one-half mile from the City of Naples main drinking water supply, the Florida Panther National Wildlife Refuge, and local homes. Drilling these wells will set a precedent that can pollute our water, destroy our environment, destroy our home values, wreck our tourism industry, and devastate our community. The Collier family has leased some 115,000 acres to the Hughes drilling company, including eleven parcels in Lee County. And Hughes is not the only company looking to drill. "Our" county and state government has refused to protect us. We have been left with no choice but to go to court. We need immediate donations to retain a top-flight attorney, and pledges for what could become a drawn-out legal battle.
