Narendra Modis speech in Gorakhpur: BJP PM nominee sees winds of change, says ahead of poll win people have won him Gorakhpur, January 25, 2014 | UPDATED 14:04 IST Bharat Mata Ki...President of BJP Shri Rajnath Singh, popular MP and leader Shri Yogi Adityanath, senior BJP leader Shri kalyan Singh, Pradesh BJP chief Laxmikant, Ramapati, Suryapratap, Kalrajji, Lalji Tandon, Vinay Katiar, senior leaders and lakhs and lakhs of brothers and sisters. It seems that every area of UP is competing against each other - every rally has been record breaking in UP. From the helicopter I saw this sea of humanity. I appreciate your presence - in this winter chill. Brothers and sisters this huge attendance heralds the winds of change. Today your voice reverberates through the lanes of Benares. I have seen lots of elections, but this time, it seems the results have been pre-decided by crores of my countrymen. They have taken the pledge for a Congress-free India. Brothers and sisters, let me congratulate the youths of UP - on December 15, Sardar Patels anniversary, the whole land paid respects, you made ekta run a resounding success - it became a world record - from over 1100 places, some 55 lakh participants ran simultaneously. Om Prakashji was saying that the collection of iron implements for Sardar Patels memorial was going well. The statue of unity will be twice the size of the Statue of Liberty in the USA. Iron from farm tools from across every village of the country will be part of the statue - it shall be a unique effort of unifying the nation. The people of UP has extended their help - I shall like to thank all villages, farmers and youths of UP from the bottom of my heart. To my brothers trying to come towards the stage - please dont - there is no place left - all covered by this vast sea of humanity - wherever I see - its you all the way - I have had the honour equivalent of seeing God - in seeing you all here today. Brothers and sisters, the soil of Gorakhpur is sacred - our cultural legacy and the thoughts of saints and great men and ancient scriptures have been propagated throughout the world via the great deeds of the Geeta Press. It has been like a quest for knowledge and any society that strives for knowledge makes progress. Let me salute the great land of Gorakhpur. Brothers and sisters, how will the 2014 polls be? You just saw a trailer: five states went to the polls and in four states, the BJP got the support of the majority. However, I would like to ask for your attention. Some people believe that be it Dalits, underprivileged, backward or the Adivasis, they are in their pockets. For ages they have thought of them as nothing but the vote bank. The BJP has done exceedingly well in four states - in Rajasthan there are 34 SC seats - Congress got not a single seat - they have chosen the lotus of the BJP. In Chhattisgarh, there are 10 SC seats - Congress won in one seat. In Madhya Pradesh, there are 35 SC seats, the BJP has bagged 28 of them. Let me assure the backward, Dalit, brothers of Uttar Pradesh that we shall not make a U-turn on our commitment to serve you, get you out of poverty and overall betterment of conditions. This commitment of the BJP has created a good faith amongst you. Brothers and sisters the Congress always speaks of the poor. As soon as polls come, they remember the poor. I used to think that even after 60 years of independence, the Congress glib-talk about the poor, but the lives of the poor have remained unchanged. Sixty years is a long time in a place like India, so what were the reasons? I was not getting any answers. I was trying to figure out the Congresss mentality, strategy and policy that were bringing in votes for the party and despite their lip-service to poverty alleviation, why the number of poor were ever increasing. I just got my answer: the political survival and future of Congress depends on keeping the poor poor, in poverty. Under any circumstances they will not be serious about the uplift of the poor. Their mentality is skewed. If they did not have this mindset - if this was not their policy - then they would have found it easier to accept the voice of a tea vendor, the son of a poor mother. That they are not ready to accept a tea vendor demonstrates amply their mentality, their thought process. Had they opposed our work, our political ideology, it would have been okay, but the Congress leaders are making a mockery of the poverty of a commoner. This makes it clear how and what Congress sees and thinks of the poor. Please answer me brothers and sisters, will you endure the mockery the Congress makes of the poor, will you silently endure the insult to the poor, will you endure the skewed mentality of the anti-poor Congress? Will you put up with the Congress that has turned the poor into nothing more than a vote bank? Brothers and sisters, its not about the tea vendor jibe alone. They say you get to eat at Rs 12, some say in Rs 5, do you? Can you? Isnt this a cruel joke on the poor? Brothers and sisters, how the poor live, how they go by, they die in the cold; extreme summers, diseases claim them, they suffer every conceivable adversities. But these governments, sitting in Delhi and Lucknow, simply dont have the will to fight poverty. Brothers and sisters, let me ask you doesnt time demand that we fight against poverty? What are the reasons that the states that have rivers like the Ganga and Yamuna fail to provide water and solace to farmers? Who is responsible? Brothers and sisters, there will be few villages in eastern UP that have not got people who work in Gujarat. Earn their livelihood. Who wants to abandon aged parents and move away, away from his village, friends and relatives? I believe that if there were employment opportunities, opportunities to earn honest bread, I would not have seen so many from amongst you in Gujarat. Brothers and sisters, UP is blessed with natural resources and with the correct policies and honest efforts of ten years, you can see UP at par, even ahead of Gujarat. Brothers and sisters, Netaji has issued a challenge for me today at Benares. I am happy that wherever I go these days, the father and son duo follows me. Today they said that Modi does not have the ability to make UP a Gujarat. Do you know the meaning of making Gujarat, Netaji? It means 24-hour electricity in every village and town 365 days a year. Netaji you are right, you do not have it in you to make UP a Gujarat. That needs a 56-inch chest to begin with. You wont be able to bring about the transformation, Netaji. Making Gujarat means over 10 per cent growth in agricultural sector over 10 years, not like the 3-4 per cent growth your journey stops at. Netaji, it has been 10 years since Gujarat has been living in peace, prosperity, touching new highs and breaking records. You have not been able to replicate a single criterion here. Brothers and sisters, I shall be happy Netaji if you can make a Gujarat in UP. I shall be happy if people of Gujarat come over to UP for their livelihood one day. Actually that can be done, but you cannot; your government got such a huge support, but what have you done for the people? You have failed to provide security, employment and safety to women. This huge, great land you have laid to waste to suit your political agenda. We have taken a vow to make this place a success story. Brothers and sisters, even standing alone, UP can go a long way towards eradicating poverty and unemployment in India. UP has the wherewithal to change the very face of India. Brothers and sisters, now about the Congress leaders from BSP, SP: you know all has one master (Sabka Malik Ek). Do you know - S means SP, B from BSP and Ça from Congress and the malik? Everyone knows who it is. They have no interest in development. They are submerged in their politicking. You tell me why the sugarcane farmers are suffering. There are rivers here, land is plentiful, yet why do you have to import milk from outside? Who made UP so weak? Brothers and sisters, why do we have to get milk supplies from outside? There is livestock, land, feed, water - so why? Cant UP come up with a dairy like Amul? Cant the farmers of UP earn more? But they wont simply do it. Let me make a promise to you - through white revolution alone - by livestock breeding and milk production the farmers of UP can better their lifestyle, get employment and the demand-supply gap in milk can be bridged on a national scale. Brothers and sisters, you must learn to dream: the Congress cannot do it and because of that agricultural sector which needs to be modernised needs primary focus, needs impetus. Today a farmer has to buy fertilisers from the black market and look at this government. The fertiliser plant at Gorakhpur has been shut down. On the one hand you need fertilisers, while on the other, the youth need employment and you have locked down the fertiliser plant. Small issues may be, but let me tell those interested in vote bank policies that this outlook of catering to the vote bank to win elections is passe - those days are gone - people want employment, they want development. The new generation wants security. This is the demand of the time and these sab-ka-malik-ek cannot lead us on to that road to change. BJP alone travels down the road to development and they can do it. Brothers and sisters, if we want to take strides in the field of agriculture, let me request the farmers here that a delegation of your state should visit Gujarat and see the synergy between sugarcane farmers and sugar mills in Gujarat. Sugar mills operate on time, sugarcane is purchased in time and dues are remitted quickly. It is a matter of setting up a system and ensuring it works, but in this state, where the government cannot ensure timely exams in schools and colleges, how do you expect them to? There are many areas in our country, where even the school-college examinations are not conducted on time and due to that crores of youngsters are pushed back by one year in their lives. How big a damage we cause to the human resource then! Cant our universities and colleges follow a time-table bound course to conduct the examinations on time and thus making our colleges at par with other schools and colleges of India? They do not have to do it brothers and therefore, brothers-sisters if there has to be employment, we need to put emphasis on agriculture and if we have to bring developments in the agriculture sector, it needs to be divided in three parts. It is the need of the time that we divide agriculture in three parts - 1/3rd traditional agriculture, 1/3rd animal husbandry and 1/3rd tree plantation on the boundary of the farms. Our nation is forced to import timber today. If our farmers plant tree on the borders of the farms, if five trees are planted when a daughter is born in the family, these five trees, when the time comes, can be cut and sold to arrange the money for the wedding of the daughter and our farmers would be saved from taking loan, but for doing so, to take the society ahead, we need proper thought, aim and leadership Brothers and sisters, they spend the whole in deciding on the price of the sugarcane. They are wasting time on the issue of running or closing of sugar mills and therefore, brothers and sisters, we cannot change the circumstances without good governance. Brothers and sisters, from my experience, I say this is not a poor country. The people of a poor country have been made poor and they have been made so for political reasons. The country is rich and its people can become rich, but for that, we have to fight the election of 2014 brothers. Brothers and sisters, shouldnt the common man get security? What is the reason that people have to be the in queue for guns licence? Wherever they go, they have to take gunners with them. What is the reason? Brothers and sisters, I tell you the experience of Gujarat, youngsters who come to Gujarat from UP to earn their living, their mothers are deeply worried when they leave home and with availability of mobile phones today, she calls him every hour to know his well-being - the son says, mother the train is moving now, you dont worry and please sleep, I am going to Gujarat, but the mother doesnt sleep, she keeps on calling every hour, she asks, son, have you reached Gujarat? The Son again tries to convince her to sleep, but she doesnt, but once she comes to know that the train has entered Gujarat, she feels assured and goes to sleep. She says as your train has reached Gujarat, you are safe now. Brothers and sisters, cant it be the case with the whole country? For this reason, I have come to you, brothers-sisters. We do not want to see India crying. We do not want to see India soaked in blood; we do not want to see India unemployed; we do not want to see the youth of India as beggars. Brothers and sisters, today, from the holy land of Gorakhpur, I want to seek something from the countrymen, will you give? Please tell me with both fists closed, with full strength, will you give for sure? Brothers-sisters, this I say to the countrymen from Gorakhpur, I am saying this to my brothers and sisters of UP. For 60 years, you have elected rulers to run the state and the country. I have come here to ask you to give me just 60 months. You have given them 60 years, give me 60 months. So far, you have elected rulers, now elect a servant this time to see the outcome. Brothers and sisters, we are determined to bring change to your lives. We will not sit in comfort so as to fulfill your dreams; we are the people who will devote their lives for it. Brothers and sisters, there is smile on your faces, you can dream, you can realise your dreams, I have come here to promise you to give such an India - today is the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhashchandra Bose who had said Chalo Dilli. Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose had said Tum Mujhe Khoon Do, Main Tumhe Azadi Dunga, brothers and sisters, I am saying this to you - you give me 60 months and I will give you a life of peace and happiness, I have come to you to promise this. Brothers and sisters, we have started with the Mantra of development - the vote bank politics has cornered much for the 60 years. Give your blessings to the politics of development for 60 months and you will see the dreams of youngsters coming true. Does any parent sitting here think of a life for his son that he himself survived with great difficulties? Youngsters, do you want to have such a life? Dont you, too, need development? Dont you, too, need electricity in villages? Dont you, too, need education for your children? Dont you, too, need roads in your villages? Dont you, too, need water for your farms? This is the very job of the government and therefore, brothers and sisters, we do not want this country to remain like this. We want to make a country that can face the world on equal footing and for that I need your friendship brothers Brothers and sisters, I am witnessing it clearly this voice raised from Purvanchal. Brothers and sisters, though you will give me the victory when the 2014 elections come, but I am saying, today, with bowed head that you have won me, you have made me yours. Brothers and sisters, I promise that I will return this love with interest by bringing development. Now say with me Bharat Mata Ki...Vande...Speak with full strength - Vande Mataram.
