Narrated Abdullah ibn Masud. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, Verily the creation of any one of you takes place when he is assembled in his mothers womb; for forty days he is as a drop of fluid, then it becomes a clot for a similar period. Thereafter, it is a lump looking like it has been chewed for a similar period. Then an angel is sent to him, who breathes the ruh (spirit) into him. This Angel is commanded to write Four decrees: that he writes down his rizq (provision), his life span, his deeds, and whether he will be among the wretched or the blessed. I swear by Allah - there is no God but He - one of you may perform the deeds of the people of Paradise till there is naught but an arms length between him and it, when that which has been written will outstrip him so that he performs the deeds of the people of the Hell Fire; one of you may perform the deeds of the people of the Hell Fire, till there is naught but an arms length between him and it, when that which has been written will overtake him so that he performs the deeds of the people of Paradise and enters therein. Some events happen at the beginning or end of one period and some continue through the next (such as the chewed flesh is persistent until the features become defined). They match up exactly to the hadith. Either an unlettered Arab less than 1500 years ago was able to define only what modern science could, or he received this from the Creator of mankind. Days 1-40 (drop of water) As the fertilized egg grows, a water-tight sac forms around it, gradually filling with fluid. This is called the amniotic sac, and it helps cushion the growing embryo. Days 41-80 (blood clot) Each ear begins as a little fold of skin at the side of the head. Tiny buds that eventually grow into arms and legs are forming. Fingers, toes and eyes are also starting forming. There is no heart but a tube of blood clotted the pulses 65 times a minute. Days 81-120 (chewed flesh to human) Towards the very end of this period. Your baby’s heart and heartbeat may now be audible through an instrument called a doppler. The fingers and toes become well-defined. Preliminary eyelids, eyebrows, eyelashes, nails, and hair are formed. Teeth and bones become denser. Your baby can even suck his or her thumb, yawn, stretch, and make faces. Around 120 days and after The nervous system and brain is starting to function. The reproductive organs and genitalia are now fully developed, and your doctor can see on ultrasound if you are having a boy or a girl. You may begin to feel your baby move, since he or she is developing muscles and exercising them. This first movement is called quickening.
