Narrated by Anas (RA), who mentioned that he was walking with the Messenger of Allah (SAW), who at that time was wearing a Najraani cloak with a stiff collar. Along came a Bedouin man who pulled the cloak of the Prophet (SAW) so roughly, that it left burn marks on his neck. The Bedouin said: “O Muhammad, give me some of the wealth of Allah that you have!” The Prophet (SAW) turned to him and smiled, and ordered that he should be given something. [al-Bazzaar] Imagine this! The Prophet (SAW) smiled back at the Bedouin - when he could have just as easily knocked him out or pushed him to the ground. How many of us would react in this manner, when we possess the strength to overpower a person who behaves rudely with us? How many of us control ourselves, when those lesser in age or experience or strength, behave with us inappropriately? Do we “let them have it”? Do we “teach them a thing or two”? The Noble Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said: The strong man is not the one who overpowers people in wrestling, but the strong is the one who controls himself when angry.” [Bukhari]
