Nasarawa Approves N280m For Students Bursary Gov. Umaru Al-Makura of Nasarawa State has approved more than N280 million for the payment of the 2013 bursary allowances to students of the state in higher institutions of learning across the country. Alhaji Abdulwahab Sulaiman, Executive Secretary of the state’s Scholarship Board, disclosed this to newsmen on Tuesday, in Lafia. Sulaiman said the disbursement of the allowances would begin on June 30, at the Nasarawa State University, Keffi. He explained that a total of 18, 762 of the 19, 678 students who applied for the bursary would benefit from the gesture. According to him, students in the Nigerian Law school will get N100,000 each while those in Maritime Academy and College of Aviation Technology, would be given N50,000 each. He said that medical students on 600 and 500 levels would each get N60,000 and N50,000, respectively. Sulaiman said that the 500-level pharmacy and 400-level Bachelor of Education students would be given N50,000 each, respectively. He also said that all persons with disability in various institutions would receive N20,000 each while students studying other courses in tertiary institutions would receive N10,000 each. According to him, NCE III students will receive N30,000 each. On foreign scholarship, Sulaiman said that the state government had so far spent more than N57 million on 14 students studying medicine and engineering in Ukraine. He said that of the number, six were studying medicine while eight were engineering students. Sulaiman said that 38 indigenes of the state were currently enjoying the Federal Scholarship Programme. He said that eight other students from the state were currently undergoing various post graduate and under graduate studies in Morocco, Russia and Turkey under the Bilateral Education Agreement (BEA) Programme. He said the Al-Makura-led administration was poised to turn around education in the state. (NAN)
