Nasarawa Begins Students’ Empowerment Scheme- Donatus Nadi leadership The Nasarawa State government yesterday distributed income generating materials to less privileged students as part of measures to improve on their standard of living while in school. The executive chairman, Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB),Malam Abdulkarim Abdullahi, made the inaugural distribution in Lafia. He said that the state government deemed it necessary to empower the students in order to be self reliant and to contribute their quota to the development of the state and not forfeit educational pursuit because of financial constraint. LEADERSHIP reports that the materials donated include sewing machines and pressure machine used by vulcanizers. The NSUBEB boss said the gesture would be extended to other parts of the state where students who are willing to study but lacked the financial strength would be trained in vocational skills and given materials to set up their business. This he said was a better alternative than simply giving out money to students because it would give them the platform to be self-sustaining even after school since government obviously lacks the capacity to provide jobs. “There are lots of students who have acquired skills in computer, tailoring, car washing, carpentery among others while in school and the state government will provide materials.
