LAGRAN Saturday 15th of March 2014 100 79 0 0 0 BOAC, Marinduque, Mar 15 (PIA) --- Airport authorities are requesting the public to stretch their patience a little longer as completion of its runway rehabilitation project takes some time. Tourists, vacationers and homecoming kababayans will have to travel by sea to reach the province in time for summer and the annual Moriones Festival as the island’s sole airport remained close for repairs and rehabilitation. Right now, the asphalting of the Marinduque Airport’s transition and taxiway is 95 percent finished while half of its runway was already concreted. But in an interview, Marinduque Airport Officer-in-Charge Kerwin Laudit said the second phase (concreting of the remaining half of the runway) will take two months to complete while the P29 million third phase of the rehabilitation project will require six-month work to finish. An additional 363 meters of the runway needs to be concreted. Rehabilitation took off last year. The second phase was funded by Civil Aviation Authorities of the Philippines (CAAP) while the third phase is supported by the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC).
