Nashville summer is officially here. Currently 102 degrees with the heat index. I have seen lots of hot weather injuries including dehydration, heat exhaustion, heat stroke, and death. The way to keep you risks for heat injury down is to stay hydrated. Drink water. I say again, WATER. Not soda, not Gatorade, not Power Aid, or any other fluid you can think of. Only WATER! AN average sized person not doing any physical activity and staying in a climate controlled environment requires 1 liter to maintain optimal hydration. I normally drink 3 liters. Today, I have already consumed 4. This afternoon I will doing a 7 mile bike ride, an hour long out door private lesson training in Eskrima, and going to the gym. I can do these things in this heat because I stay hydrated. Food for thought, or should I say Fluid for thought.
