The minority leader of Katsina State House of Assembly Hon Abdullahi I Mahuta has been recalled. I believe is a sigh to the masses of the state. Alhaji Abdullahi Ibrahim Mahuta, member representing Malumfashi state constituency was suspended on 3rd of june 2013. Mahuta was suspended from being a house member for allegedly accusing the Assembly and the executive arm of government in the state of low performance in budget implementation. Mahuta was quoted as saying that the average performance of the Katsina State Government on budget implementation stands at about 36 percent for 2011 and 37 percent for 2012. He also accused the Assembly of not performing its function saying if it had been up and doing the performance level would have been higher. Shortly after the publication, the lawmakers who were on recess cut-off their holiday and resumed for a special sitting over the matter. The House sat on June 3, 20113 and suspended Mahuta from his position as minority leader to pave the way for the House committee on ethics and privileges to investigate the matter. He did not deny making the allegations but explained that “All I said in the interview was that some budgetary allocations were not released to the owners. I gave an example that not a single kobo was released to Science and Technical Education board out of the N400 million, also katsina state government did not release anything to Isa Kaita College of Education out of the N100 million [that was budgeted]. It released only N800 million out of the N5.2 billion budgeted to Umaru Musa Yaradua University,Hassan Usman Katsina had a budgetary allocation of N399 million but they received only about N43 million budgeted in 2012. “ He said those not comfortable with his statement are free to come with their figures and dispute the allegation before the committee. three month later we have been expecting to see the leadership of those organisations like the University, the Polytechnic and the Science and technical board to come out publicly to deny Mahuta’s figures about what they actually received.
