Nat Geos documentary about the Philippines undying love for the sport of basketball. It is presented by Rafe Bartholomew, author of the best-seller Pacific Rims. Basketball was introduced to the PH by the US colonial government in 1910. It was part of their ‘hearts and minds’ strategy to win over Filipinos towards American rule. In the first Olympics to have basketball as a medal event in 1936, the Philippines only lost one game and it was to the United States. They beat everybody else and it was only because of a scheduling quirk that they didnt get a medal. The PH won a third place finish in the 1954 World Basketball championship, and had four consecutive gold medals in the Asian Games from 1951 to 1962.
