Natasha-Year 12 Upper Yarra SC Living in Cambodia is truly a unique experience. When I got here, it absolutely blew me away. It was not what I expected at all. Despite the very small similarities with Australia, the fact that both the more luxurious and poverty households reside among one another is surprising, as well as the way traffic in Cambodia. Everything I have seen in this experience so far has been either confronting or breathtaking, some even both. The environment is so beautiful, and so are the people. Dont even get me started on the children; they melt your heart to the point where you want to hide them in your suitcase on the way home! My favorite parts of this trip so far has been donating and helping others, and seeing the Khmer smile and enjoy their life despite having practically nothing compared to us. Its inspiring, to say the least. I also love how close the people in our group have become, not only with the Cambodians but with each other. Its amazing what small details you can discover when you live with one another, especially in a completely different environment to what we are used to. Overall, this is undeniably the best experience ever offered to me, and I know that other members of the UYSC group will say the same. Some of us are even planning on coming back for a longer period of time! Every single one of our parents have every reason to be proud, as I know they already are. I cant thank you enough for the support youve provided leading up to this trip! - Natasha, Year 12
