National ANFA Conference 2013 This year the ANFA gathering was held in the Adelaide Hills, October, 25th-28th ANFA is an alliance of Aboriginal people, Activists, doctors, Unionists and NGOs from all across the country to stand together against the uranium industry. A Symposium was held at Adelaide’s Tandanya National Aboriginal Cultural Institute on Friday 25th facilitated by ANFA Co-chairs. Saturday morning we held introductions, hearing about where people traveled from and why they thought being a part of ANFA would help their country, followed by a native title, sovereignty and land rights session by Co-chair Kado Muir Women and men held separate meetings; health was on top of the agenda with concerns of pollution in their drinking water and uranium being transported on their homelands. This was followed by discussions on the transport of radioactive waste, trucks and trains, routes and risks. On Sunday we covered the issue of radioactive waste management, reflecting on the SA victory against the proposed waste dump at Coober Pedy. There was an update on the Muckaty dump proposal including the government process, court challenge, community campaign and upcoming key dates and events. Separate States and Territory meetings were held in the afternoon to work on communication and strategies. To top off the weekend there was a solid session on outreach and solidarity, looking at ways of working with trade unions, community groups and media. We also talked about international campaigns and connections and identified current alliances in Africa, Japan, Europe and Canada. The following day we took all of this fire in our bellies to Port Adelaide where the ANFA meeting staged a protest against uranium exports through the Port. Overall the gathering was well received and going by the feedback it was a big success, WANFA would like to thank the delegates and supporters from WA and other states and Territories
