National Black Chamber of Commerce Progress Report 080314 1. OPIC Connection: One of our members has just been certified as a loan originator for the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC). Any dues paying member of the NBCC or an affiliate chapter needing funding for a specific off shore project can contact Chuck DeBow for an introduction ([email protected]) . 2. Store Ownership Opportunity: We are partnering with one of the largest painting manufacturers in the world. They want to create more stores throughout the United States. This is not a franchising opportunity. They can assist qualified entrepreneurs in the startup of a retail painting store. Applicants should have $70,000+ in capital to establish such a store. Interested persons should contact Ryan at [email protected] . 3. Boot Camp on Federal Procurement: Learn how to access federal procurement via an online approach. Many of our members are having great success at this. As a primer view the class we had on this at our recent annual conference. 4. Costa Rica here we come: The national office is looking forward to the upcoming International Investors Conference being held on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica (August 27 – September 1). Those who want to join us should contact Kay DeBow at [email protected]. 5. The Hill Contributor: We have been accepted as a contributor for The Hill newspaper covering Capitol Hill. Here is our latest OP – ED. If you have a current topic worthy of reading and discussion please send it to us for consideration. 6. California gets Hustled: The people of California have recently been snookered by the California Grocery Association and their union United Food & Commercial Workers. Senate Bill 270 demands that customers be charged 10 cents for each and every paper or plastic bag they use. This amounts to $440 million per year. Where does the money go? It goes straight to the grocery stores and their union members. It is not a sales item so they do not have to pay a penny in taxes. So, not one penny goes to any public good, litter abatement, waste management mitigation, recycling initiatives, beach clean-up or anything else. Most voters thought it was an environmental issue – suckers! 7. Telecom Issues: Here is a report stating the NBCC position on critical telecom issues that are being debated at the FCC and Capitol Hill. 8. Section 3 Opportunities: Newark (NJ) Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity Center has just signed a Voluntary Compliance Agreement with HUD. They are desperately seeking Section 3 businesses. Interested Section 3 business owners should contact our Chairman, John Harmon, at jharmon@aaccnj for referral. HUD has just signed a VCA with the state of New Jersey that covers the $3 billion in Disaster Recovery money. 9. Who Funds Environmental Groups? The donors are basically billionaires. This is broken down in a recently published booklet. This 92 page report is the work of the Minority Staff of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee. You will be surprised. 10. NBCC Partnership with Mass Mutual: We will begin our Wealth Building Tour next week in New York City. Read the press release and consider hosting an event in your market area. 4400 Jenifer St NW – Washington, DC 20015 unsubscribe Harry Alford via aaccnj 1:35 PM (3 hours ago) to jbaptiste
