National Day is a time to rejoice and celebrate our achievements. My wish is that in the days that follow, we will reflect on what Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew said on August 9, 1966: Every year, on this 9th August for many years ahead - how many, I do not know - we will dedicate ourselves anew to consolidate ourselves to survive, and, most important of all, to find an enduring future for what we have built .... Let us distil the lessons from our short history, strengthen ourselves to face whatever challenges in the unknown road ahead and work together to celebrate future National Days with optimism.
