National Forecast Aug .29, 2014 Midwest - Showers and storms will focus from eastern Kansas to Minnesota and Wisconsin today as an upper trough slowly advances through the Midwest. - Localized flooding is possible in areas that receive the heavy rain. - Rainfall of 1-3 with locally higher amounts can be expected. - Todays highs will range from the 70s from the Upper Midwest to the Great Lakes up to the 90s from Kansas to the Ohio Valley. - The next weather system produces thunderstorms, some severe, late Saturday for the western Dakotas. - More significant severe weather develops by Sunday afternoon from eastern Nebraska and western Iowa to southern Minnesota (hail, damaging winds and a few tornadoes). - This system continues to march eastward with storms, some severe, on Monday from the Great Lakes to the mid-MS Valley. South - Showers and thunderstorms continue today along coastal sections of Texas and Louisiana as impulses continue to ride up into the Gulf of Mexico. - Thunderstorm activity will also increase along the Gulf Coast and parts of the Florida Peninsula. - Scattered storms for parts of north Texas into Oklahoma and Arkansas from a disturbance moving through the Plains. - Heat and humidity will spread across the region. - Todays highs will be mostly in the 90s (with some 80s along the Southeast Coast and in Virginia. - After some nice weather recently, showers and storms overtake the Southeast on Saturday. - Scattered storms linger for the Southeast on Sunday as dry weather takes hold for the southern Plains. - It will continue to feel rather summery across the South through the first week of September. Northeast - High pressure keeps much of the region dry through Saturday before a new frontal boundary increases rain chances late this weekend. - Highs temperatures today will range from the 70s from eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey up to New England to the 80s across the rest of the Middle Atlantic region. - Well start to see showers and storms enter western New York and western Pennsylvania Saturday night. - Showers and storms return for much of the region on Sunday as the next cold front moves in. - Some wet weather lingers near coastal areas on Monday for Labor Day. West - As a trough of low pressure aloft moves away from the region, dry conditions will prevail. - There will be some showers or thunderstorms over parts of northern and western Washington, eastern Montana and Wyoming and in the mountains of central Colorado. - Marie will dissipate and high surf along the California Coast will relax as a result. - The rip current threat will continue along the California Coast. - Temperatures Friday will be coolest in the higher Rocky mountains with highs in the 60s. - Much of the region will see highs in the 80s to low 90s but cooler 70s along the coast and 90s to lower 100s in the deserts. - Much of the West quiet into the weekend with scattered showers and storms most concentrated from Montana to Colorado. - A few storms may turn severe Saturday for eastern Montana into northeast Wyoming.
