National Institute of Technology Nagaland (NIT Nagaland)(राष्ट्रीय प्रौद्योगिकी संस्थान नागालैंड ) is a higher education technology institute located at Dimapur in Nagaland, India. It is one of the 30 National Institutes of Technology. National Institute of Technolog, Nagaland was set up by the Government of India in 2009, as part of the of the Eleventh Five-Year Plan (2007–2012) for imparting technical education in the state of Nagaland. That year Government opened 10 new NITs in all over India. The Mentoring responsibility of our NIT Nagaland was given to NIT Silchar. The first Batch of NIT Nagaland (2010-2014) studied at NIT Silchar for two years and finally the NIT Nagaland was shifted to its home state Nagaland in September 2012. NIT Nagaland is a federally funded technical university established by an Act of the Indian Parliament. Originally, the institute was to start functioning from a temporary campus at the Old DC Complex at Chumukedima, about 14 kilometres (8.7 mi) from Dimapur, in January 2012, while land for a permanent campus was acquired in the Niuland area but the site selection committee led by special secretary (Technical Education), Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Ashok Thakur and director, Mentor NIT (NIT Silchar),Dr. NV Deshpande, during their 2-day visit to Nagaland on January 14 & 15 last,inspected both the Niuland and Chumukedima sites. On the January 15 afternoon, the team met chief minister Neiphiu Rio at his residential office in Kohima and informed the latter that the committee had chosen Chumukedima as the permanent site for NIT Nagaland. NIT Nagaland is managed by the NIT Nagaland Society registered under the Societies Act. The institute is fully funded by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. At present the government has 3 UG cources in Engineering namely Electronics & Communication Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering and Electrical & Electonics Engineering. On October 13, 2012, former Union minister of human resource development, communication and information technology Kapil Sibal inaugurated the NIT Nagaland at Chumukedima. The NIT foundation laying function was attended by chief minister Neiphiu Rio,Lok Sabha member CL Ruala, top officials of the state government and the union HRD ministry.
