National Night Out ~ 2013 NNO will be held on August 6th starting at 7 pm this year. Leander Police Department and other first responder agencies will be at this years neighborhood events to answer questions and spend time with neighbors. National Night Out is a great opportunity for citizens and law enforcement to partner up against crime. We invite you to attend the event, meet and greet your neighbors in strengthening unity and making your community safer. National Night Out is designed to: 1. Heighten awareness of potential criminal activity 2. Generate support and participation in crime fighting efforts 3. Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community relations 4. Let criminals know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back! During the event, residents in neighborhoods throughout Leander and across the nation are asked to turn on their porch lights, lock their doors and spend the evening outside with their neighbors, police officers, firefighters and paramedics. Residents of the neighborhoods will plan and schedule events such as cookouts, block parties and neighborhood walks. First responders will attend the events and interact with residents in order to achieve the NNO goals. These neighborhood events will occur throughout the city, state and nationwide. You can join the National Night Out event by: 1. Getting all of your neighbors to turn on their porch lights 2. Organizing a block party or some type of neighborhood event 3. Filling out and returning the National Night Out application to the address below: Home Owner Association’s are encouraged to promote their events in their individual neighborhood. Simply complete the online form on the LPD website and submit it by mail or by email. Citizens and community organizers are encouraged to make suggestions to improve this great opportunity for crime awareness and prevention. Due to past requests, the 2014 NNO event will be held on the accepted Texas alternative date of the first Tuesday in October 2014. Leander Community Partnership Program Full community support is always key to safe guarding our neighborhoods from criminal activity. This includes business participation. The ‘Community Partnership Program’ allows for local Leander businesses to assist in the National Night Out campaign by donating to a single fund which is then equally distributed to this year’s participating NNO neighborhood events. Participating businesses are also encouraged to attend local events to introduce their business and show support to the Leander community. Local Leander Business can join the National Night Out event by: 1. Joining the Community Partnership Program 2. Donate to the local NNO fund 3.
