National Nurses Week begins on May 6, marked as RN Recognition Day, and ends on May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, founder of nursing as a modern profession. On Tuesday, May 6, registered nurses at Family Health West will be honored by the Fruita City Council with a proclamation, “The City of Fruita supports the goals and ideals of National Nurses Week as founded by the American Nurses Association,” said Fruita City Councilwoman and Family Health West Board Chair, Stacey Mascarenas. “We recognize the significant contributions of nurses to the healthcare system of the United States and to the Lower Valley area of Mesa County and encourage our citizens to observe National Nurses Week with appropriate recognition to demonstrate the importance of nurses to the everyday lives of patients and families.”
