National Parliamentary Budget Committee visit to the Governor The Kenya National Parliamentary Budget Committee made a courtesy call to Baringo County Governor Benjamin Cheboi to discuss an overview of the priorities to be considered during allocation of funds in the budget making of year 2015/2016. Committee Chairman and Subukia MP Nelson Gaichuhie who was accompanied by Baringo County women MP and Moses Lessonet of Eldama Ravine promised the county that the national government will ensure that budgetary provisions are considered in the budget according to priorities and urged the county to partner with the central unit to achieve good results in development. Governor Cheboi pointed out Security as a major threat in the county stating that insecurity has led to poor development. He asked the national government to invest more on security by posting more officers in the affected areas. “Insecurity issue is high in Baringo County and I call upon the national government to act on the matter” Said Cheboi. Cheboi added that poor road infrastructure of about 1800kms of the County roads is unpaved affecting transportation of goods and services between the county and its neighbors and urged the national government to allocate funds to open up main roads linking Baringo to Samburu to laikipia to promote trade and open up the region for tourism. Cheboi said that Baringo County has high potential in irrigation based along Kerio Valley River and asked the national government to allocate more funds to improve and put up more irrigation schemes in order to secure food security in the area since drought is a major challenge. He urged the committee on special programmes to consider the county in short term budget for food to the displaced and vulnerable people as the county at times by experience the challenge of limited resources. While discussing on the challenges affecting the County, Cheboi alluded that the County has no working Sewerage System in towns of Baringo and asked the budget committee to consider allocating funds for the establishment of the facilities in order to reduce the health issues that affects the residents living in Baringo County towns. In terms of lands, the governor pointed out that land title deeds needs to be issued to members of the community to facilitate planning and development in towns.
