National Security Blog: Memorias, some mamis..... Thoughts from an Oka-Tamuning Boy. @ marianasguamblog.tumblr Hafa Adai. Back in the day I would help uncle Brown at the ranch. The treks were always predictable; get in the truck, drink some coffee and head south on an empty tank of gas that never let us down. Those were the days. Uncle Brown was one of the koolest uncles and is still around. We would harvest chandea and take it to the market to cash out. I couldnt keep up with his endurance at the ranch because he was very strong. Uncle Manual would make his way down to the ranch all the time as well because he had a ranch down the road. Uncle Brown and Uncle Manual were badasses because they were funny as hell and as tough as they were funny. Uncle Brown comes to mind now because back in the day, amidst picking the chandea, stomping through the sword grass and driving through the dirt, we always celebrated MLK Day. This was so because uncle Brown was so Brown, that uncle Manual literally called us over to BBQ in honor of MLK. No kidding. Mamis Memorias. Reminds me also of one instance in which uncle Brown was fertilizing one of the fields at the ranch after using the tracker. I always thought to myself, shit there are a lot of chunks of soil, lots of weeds and lots of work to do. This was around the time when Angel jumped the fence at NAS. I remember Anghet quite well because I saw him one time at a party. He seemed to be a kool guy. I didnt think it was a good idea to jump the fence at NAS but hey, it wasnt my ass hanging in the air. Seems to me that the guy was looking for political voice and nothing more. It seemed to me that he was for human rights for everyone, not just members of Sams Club. I remembered the time he became a senator, became sick and then passed on. It was a sad day indeed. I nodded with the family in disgust that Sam had fertilized and tilled the field because it did kill the Angel-weed. I guess Sams next spray will be aimed to stunt and pull out WAG-weed. Not so sure if it will work however, because islanders have caught on to the store brand and its application and as with all fertilizers, it only works if applied correctly. Miss the days of working at the ranch. Ode to Uncle Brown on this day of MLK and God knows Anghet was simply looking to attain a sense of belonging through securing full human recognition for islanders.
