National Standards yet to be regulated in all states. You may (or may not) remember that on 1 August, we posted that the grace period for the implementation of National Standards & Guidelines for Cattle and Sheep had expired and that those standards (particularly the land transport section) must now be adhered to. But today I received this emailed press release from Animal Health Australia which in part states: AHA’s Chief Executive Officer, Ms Kathleen Plowman said the standards and guidelines can now be considered for endorsement by the state and territory ministers. “Should the state and territory governments endorse the standards, this will support a streamlined and consistent approach across the country to the welfare of cattle and sheep. So... while we understood that the recommendations MUST be nationally adopted the fact is they must be endorsed by each state government and become regulated. The current status of each state and territorys adoption and regulation of the standards and guidelines can be found here: animalwelfarestandards.net.au/land-transport/
