National Weather Service Update Tropical Storm Karen is having a difficult time maintaining strength, as seen on satellite, radar, and aircraft recon observations. She will make landfall late tonight in southeast Louisiana as a tropical depression or storm, and then move northeast towards the Florida panhandle on Sunday. Locally, scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms have been developing this afternoon. This activity is producing locally heavy rain and gusty winds of 20-30 mph. The tornado threat never materialized. Along the coast, tides continue to run 1-2 feet above normal, resulting in minor flooding this afternoon around Sabine Pass, Holly Beach, Cameron, Intracoastal City, Cypremort Point, and Burns Point. The coastal flood threat will diminish tonight behind the cold front, in fact below normal tides will be the story on Sunday morning.
