National are keen to extend the age bracket for their discrimination against young people- from age 17, up to age 20 if they win the next election. Scrutinising and harassing 19 year olds is not the answer. Creating decent jobs and ensuring tertiary & vocational education is accessible & affordable for ALL is. Youth unemployment is 30% for some groups in parts of Auckland. Someone I know on the Youth Payment was made to go to a budgeting course as one of his obligations. He was asked to work out how to budget his meager $50 per week in hand. Needless to say, this didnt cover basic costs of getting to school, going to doctors etc and even the budgeter agreed no amount of good maths can help with an insufficient income.
