National live youth debate in Johannesburg, Ginsberg (King Williams Town) and Cape Town on Tuesday 11 March. Hosted by Live Magazine SA, in partnership with ACTIVATE! and Steve Biko Foundation. the debate will capture the attitudes of young South Africans to democracy and the upcoming election. The debate will take place on Tuesday 11 March at JoziHub (44 Stanely Avenue, Milpark, Johannesburg) from 10am to 12pm and feature a panel of thought-leaders and influencers including: DJ Fresh: Joined YFM in 1997 and was heading up the breakfast team by 2003. He was quickly snapped up by 5FM in 2006 where the Fresh Drive has since become a 5FM institution as well as the station’s most popular show. Shaka Sisulu: Public speaker, entrepreneur, social-activist and writer. Shaka defines himself as just an Afrikan with a vision of the Greatness of Afrika. A lover of sun, song, dance, sea, people, ideas, child, inspiration, woman, words, Afrikan soil and love. Tumelo Mothotoane: At just 22, this jubilant young woman is the anchor of SABC 1’s SUNDAY LIVE, a youth driven news and current affairs show LIVE every Sunday on SABC 1 as well as SABC’s 24 hour NEWS Channel Live main desk of the AM (Weekend) NEWS comprising of News, Business and Sports bulletins. Khadija Patel: Journalist, she is the managing editor of a new project focused on the upcoming election southafricavotes2014.co.za. She is also a writing fellow at the University of Witwatersrand’s Institute for Social and Economic Research (Wiser). Kagiso Lediga: Recognised today as one of the country’s pioneering black comedians in the country and given his invaluable contribution to local comedy, Kagiso Lediga has certainly earned his right to be called a South African comedy legend. He is a natural storyteller with an enigmatic comedy style that blends schoolboy charm with creative genius, sharp intelligence and wit. GOOGLE HANGOUTS – GINSBERG & CAPE TOWN Supported by Google Hangouts, the debate will also cross live to audiences of young people at the Steve Biko Centre in Ginsberg (King Williams Town) as well as 88mph in Cape Town to take questions and comments from young people. Young people aged 16 to 35 years are welcome to attend the free debate, however there are limited places available so you must register below to secure your place. The debate will officially launch our year-long - VIP: Voting is Power – campaign which encourages young South Africans to become more actively engaged in the democratic process. Be There!!
