Nationalism as a Community 2.5 million years of evolution guided the Homo sapiens to live in small bands of intimate communities. These are today replaced by market communities such as office colleagues, online communities such as users of social media, followers of famous personalities such as movie and sports stars, etc. The state itself is gradually turning into a community. This identification with the state is called Nationalism. Nationalism is the ideology based on the premise that individual loyalty and devotion to the nation-state surpasses all other individual or group interests. (brittanica). Nationalism is a modern movement because people throughout history have been attached to their native soil, to the traditions of the family, the customs of the religions they followed, to the established territorial authorities, etc., but it was only in the 18th century that nationalism began to be the recognized sentiment molding public and private life and developed into one of the greatest single determining factor that guided modern history. Consequently, today people all over the world are identifying themselves lesser with a particular family, religion, or community and instead being recognized by the state or a nation. The people are being increasingly identified by what they consume. As a result, the new religions such as consumerism, nationalism, etc;
