Native African stingless bees offer farmers a chance to pollinate - TopicsExpress

Native African stingless bees offer farmers a chance to pollinate their crops and produce honey without the risk of a nasty sting. Bridget Bobadoye, an icipe PhD student and recipient of one of the prestigiousAWARD Fellowships, is researching how these little bees cope with pests invading their hives. Shes working to understand their foraging behaviours, and what makes them such efficient pollinators. As global bee populations decline, challenging food productivity, we need to look beyond the common honey bee for potential pollinators. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation featured Bridget in their recent campaign to break down stereotypes about Africa.
