Nattarasankottai is situated 9 km from Sivagangai and 55 km from Madurai. Nattarasankottai is an ancient village and it is believed that the Nagarathar community migrated to this place in Pandian Kingdom.The fame and popularity came to this place manily due to Sree Kanndaya Nayaki Amman Temple.This temple was built in mid-18th century. The deity, Kannathal alias Kannudaya Nayaki Amman is famous for her powers in giving the boon of eyesight to the devotees with eye defects and other ailments.The temple is famous for its architectural marvel and Golden Kumbhams over the Temple tower. This temple mahamandapam is known for its magnificent structure and aesthetically carved pillars. The sanctum sanctorum, Arthamandapam, Mahamandapam (spacious halls) were constructed by kings earlier. The Nagarathar people later improved the temple with a special mandap called Alankara Mandapam, a tall Rajagopuram (tower) with architectural beauty and a Karnakkal Mandap called Chokkattancherry, a special beautiful hall) with all architectural and aesthetic beauty. A teppakulam (Temple Tank) was also built. There are so many Vahanas (vehicles) made of fine wood, silver etc. as horse, a silver chariot, silver armour etc. The Kaliyattam festival is celebrated for 48 days once in12 years.
