Natural Organic Cultivation of Vegetables in Kobanî Because of the current undergoing situation in the town of Kobanî in Aleppo, under war conditions which prevailed in Syria with the proliferation of extremist groups in the region and with the absence of a real government, peoples lives and the living conditions turned out to be difficult and compelling and consequently the inhabitants were forced to procure some of necessary supplies to live on such as foodstuffs. Through field surveys carried out by some volunteer colleagues, UKSS inaugurated a sector in agriculture which aims to provide conclusions and programs in order to help families that earn their income from agriculture to finding alternatives ways helping them to remain steadfast in their areas and produce what they need from foodstuffs without having to resort to other areas or neighboring countries. noting that: 1) Semi-arid region and the agricultural land there does not rely mainly on the monsoon rains for this people rely on groundwater. 2) Agricultural sector mainly neglected during decades by the syrian government where there are large fallow tracts. 3) Financial resource is less in the hands of the inhabitants. 4) Agricultural experiences are few and limited and need to be developed. 5) Absence of incomes to work on agricultural encourage to continue in this sector. To overcome these obstacles, the agricultural sector in the union with the management of the executive director of the agriculture sector in Kobani, colleague Mirzad Sheikhi have experimented in the village of Jul Bek which locates in the west countryside of Kobani , away from the city center about 10 km. To be a dependable basis in the future in case of availability of financial support. • an area of only 5 square meters has been cultivated. • A small amount of seeds of cucumbers, courgette, beans, peas, squash, sage, watercress and carrots were cultivated which characterized by features can overcome dry environment with good yields. • drip irrigation technique was used, simplified by using a small reservoir and simple tools, the reservoir is filled through underground water. Water wouldnt be cut off for the experiment except a short period because of the dry climate. • the experiment is done by volunteer local farmers and students. • The soil is equipped with local organic fertilizers - The colleague, Ahmed Shekho, director of UKSS Deutschland in Kobani Branch escorted the teams agricultural to explain the importance of the accomplishment of this experiment for farmers in the future. this came after Kobani town suffered a crippling blockade, lack of foodstuffs, high prices and the monopoly of traders, especially after the siege of the terrorist organization ISIS on the three axes of the town and prevent the entry of any materials to it or out of it. the success of this project will lead to the creation of jobs too along with fulfilling the necessary needs of the population. The agricultural sector in the UKSS Deutschland hopes to benefit from the results of this experiment by finding sponsors and supporters to reach the levels of reliance on larger areas including multiple zones.
