Natural Resources Specialist II Performs complex (journey-level) natural resources work for a military conservation program. Work involves designing, conducting and overseeing natural resources monitoring, investigative research, studies, inspections and natural resources surveys in wild lands and urban-wild land interface. Analyzes and evaluates results of surveys, studies and military actions with regard to management needs and the impacts on natural resources. Oversees Integrated Pest Management Program and invasive species management and assists with prescribed fires. Reports to the Natural Resources Manager and works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Performs technical data collection, research, analysis, evaluations, inspections and surveys to inform management and determine impacts on natural resources including surface water, wetlands, soils, wildlife, and vegetation. Maintains relevant databases, evaluates information and prepares technical reports of findings in support of land management for ecological sustainability and military training needs. Prepares recommendations regarding findings and conducts follow-up inspections as required. • Manages contracted natural resources projects and develops scopes of work and budgets. • Oversees implementation of pest management plans and practices. Maintains and reports application data and reviews work requests for adherence to plans. • Evaluates effects of proposed projects to natural resources and makes recommendations to avoid and minimize adverse impacts. • Conducts research or field studies on natural resources hazards. • Evaluates compliance issues and develops strategies for remedy where necessary. • Researches, prepares and reviews technical papers, permits, publications and reports. Assists in formulating environmental standard operating procedures and best management practices. • Prepares, assembles and distributes educational materials and conducts educational presentations and training programs. • Provides technical assistance and research for natural resource programs including pest management, invasive species management, game management, urban biology, rare species, and wetlands. • Uses a Geographic Information System (GIS) and Global Positioning Device (GPS) to prepare for and conduct fieldwork, develop and analyze data, and present findings. Validates technical data and assists in the development and use of databases and software. • Assists with prescribed burns, brush control, re-vegetation, and monitoring; coordinates with Integrated Training Area Management (ITAM) program and staff as appropriate. • Trains others as needed. • Performs related work as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION: • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in wildlife biology/management or a related natural sciences field is required. EXPERIENCE: • Two years of experience in conservation, restoration, natural resources, wildlife, botany or environmental quality is required. • Experience in Microsoft Office products to include Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint and/or Outlook is required. NOTE: Applicant must demonstrate Microsoft experience on Application for Employment. PERFERRED EXPERIENCE: • Experience with wildlife in Texas is preferred. 40 hours per week (Monday-Friday) up to 30% travel required Education: Natural Sciences Managers 2 yrs 0 mos and Bachelors Degree - OR - 4 yrs 0 mos and Associates Degree - OR - 6 yrs 0 mos and High School Diploma/GED - OR - 0 yrs 0 mos and Masters Degree Job Posting ID: 3188981
