Naturally dyed eggs for Easter using onion skins. You take all - TopicsExpress

Naturally dyed eggs for Easter using onion skins. You take all the loose brown onion skins you can find and put them in a bowl of water. Also have a spool of thread and paper towels handy. Lay the onion skins over the raw eggs surface, and wrap the whole egg in a wet paper towel to hold the onion skins next to the egg. Then you wrap thread around and around till each egg is securely wrapped. Boil the eggs like that. Soon as you can handle the eggs, you grab the thread and unwrap them. Toss away the skins, thread and paper towel and be amazed at the incredible designs on the eggs. My mother in law who was from Estonia did this. They had no such thing as dyes for eggs in her time. They come out all shades of lovely russet and brown and gold. Use a LOT of thread to wrap each egg. The places where the thread holds the skin to the egg are especially interesting color and design wise. We do this every year and I save loose onion skins for a while before Easter to do this with. The more onion skins on the egg, the prettier the colors. You will love it, I promise! The eggs in the photo here use other natural dyes to color eggs.
