Nature can be far more cruel than human intervention. I have some babies in the box with mom and dad. Mom is an amazing sweet girl, but a fiercely protective mom. I decided to let her keep the chicks for longer than I normally would. I just pulled the parents and chicks out together for interaction with us and found one of the babies buried down in the box. He was clearly suffocated to death. Ive never lost a chick that Ive pulled... Now Im sad that I didnt pull them a few days ago as planned. The kids were right there and pretty shocked too :( Talk about a bad first...
