The 30-year-old Emirati woman was convicted of public indecency at Dubai Misdemeanours Court on Thursday. The court heard she was driving through the car park at Mirdif City Centre about 10.30am in September when she tried to pass the off-duty policeman, who was stationary and waiting to park. The 24-year-old officer, also Emirati, said that he had gone with a friend to see a movie and was stuck in a line of traffic when the woman tried to get past him. He said the Emirati woman pulled up behind him and started flashing her headlights. “There was a traffic jam and she kept using her horn and flashing the lights, but I couldn’t move as there was a car in front of me blocking the way,” he said. “I looked at her and she waived her arm then showed me her middle finger.” ———————- MORE ON THIS TOPIC… Why is a rude hand gesture or comment punishable under UAE law? Why does finger flick have to end with prison spell? Expat loses deportation fight over finger-flick ——————– The man took down her numberplate as she drove round him. He said she laughed at him then sped off out of the car park. The policeman went to Rashidiya Police Station and lodged a complaint. Dubai Police asked the Emirati women to come to the station the next day. When she saw the other driver, she began insulting him, the court heard. “There was good light in the parking area and I saw her clearly flash her middle finger,” the policeman said. His friend was in the car with him at the time and confirmed his story, saying he saw the woman flick her finger. However, the woman denied the charges and said she did not flick her middle finger. She said that it was the police officer who pulled up next to her and asked for her phone number As well as the prison sentence, the judge fined the woman Dhs2,000 for insulting the other driver. A driver stops the car in middle of the road in front of Movenpick Hotel (Oud Metha). 1:20 pm being a rush hour, if the driver needed to stop and ask for directions, should pull over on the side and do so, but stopped in middle of the One way road. I honked at this vehicle in front of me that did this act, rolling down the window she raised her arm in the open and showed the middle finger. In the signal ahead I roll down the window on my right side to see a Lady driver. She was so arrogant. When I asked “What did you just show me” She replied, You know what exactly I showed you. Hearing an arrogant reply and not an apology, I asked her if she wants me to report to the police, She said “Oh please do” and drove off. I still have her car details. DIMPLE June 5, 2014, 4:10 pm Nice job young man…She must behave in some matter that may respect her views..she a muslim woman… Actually Im not wonder this kind of situation specially in traffic lines or park area…Young lady keep annoying how could get there on space.. nahid June 5, 2014, 4:58 pm Silly!!!! wreckless driving and parents who do not secure small children with car seats should receive this much attention. Sundos June 6, 2014, 1:17 am This story does not sound completely true. I am not in favour of the lady but do not believe the policeman’s part as well since I have experienced Emarati man insisting on obtaining personal contact details by faking their identity as government employee. Court’s decision was in favour of the policeman without any proof. This isn’t justice. auh_monkey June 6, 2014, 9:56 am Or maybe he tried to flirt with her since there was a GOOD LIGHT Bron June 6, 2014, 5:14 pm It is hard to decide who is telling the truth in this case. They are both as arrogant as each other. Its a lot easier to decide who is gulity when one is an infidel. But in this case I’ll give the policeman the benefit of the doubt. ظهير أحمد June 6, 2014, 8:44 pm I love dubai police because of their justice. They give respect to everyone even local or foriegner. irisheyes June 10, 2014, 2:24 pm I am concerned about this as it is the word of one person against another. Whether this woman did indeed give the finger or not is unimportant, it just shows that any one of us can be convicted on zero evidence. An accusation from the wrong person can get an expat (not in this case) convicted and deported. Ahmed Ali November 13, 2014, 1:22 pm Best to keep quiet in these situations. If it is your word against Police you have no chance. Leave a Comment Your email address will not be published.
