Navjot Sidhus security tamasha : Kanwar Sidhu For the last few days there have been media reports of withdrawal of Punjab Police security to former cricketer-turned BJP leader, Navjot Singh Sidhu. It was felt that this had been done since he had dared to speak out against the Akali Dal in general and the Badals in particular. After much brouhaha and criticism, the Government announced that the security to Sidhu had been restored. It was also stated that the security was withdrawn as there had been some misunderstanding within the police Department. No one will buy the government or the police theory of misunderstanding. This act is typical of the way things happen in Punjab. However, I will like to raise the bigger issue: why does Navjot Singh Sidhu or the likes of him need security? Surely, Sidhu who spends most of his time on Kapil Nights Comedy show doesnt feel threatened by his acts there! Or his cricket commentaries? It is high time peoples representatives learn not to fear the very people who elect them. Let them learn to enjoy living like a common man - free, fair and fearless!
