Navy all set to get its own headquarters After operating from “six scattered locations” across the capital for decades, Indian Navy is finally set to get its own headquarters. The foundation stone of the building, proposed on 5.41-acre plot was laid by Defence Minister Arun Jaitley on Wednesday. Pegged at Rs 353.38 crore, the building will be constructed by the DRDO near its own office. “The Indian Navy had to struggle to get this plot to build its own headquarters. An organisation of the size of the Navy needs its own building,” Jaitley said, while addressing a gathering of Naval officers. He added on a lighter note that “it takes less time to get a nuclear submarine than this land.” The building, when complete, will house offices of naval officers who have so far been occupying spaces at six locations across the capital, including Sena Bhavan. Jaitley said the building will also help create more space at Sena Bhavan. The 17,000 sq mtr office area building was sanctioned in December 2013.
