Nawaz lands in India to attend Modi’s swearing-in NEW DELHI: Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif landed in New Delhi on Monday for the swearing-in ceremony of his incoming Indian counterpart Narendra Modi. PM Nawaz smiled and waved to television cameras after landing at the capital´s main airport, where he was greeted by Indian dignitaries and given a bouquet, ahead of the ceremony later Monday. Talking to media men at the Lahore Airport, PM Nawaz said that he is visiting India with the message of peace as dialogue is the only solution to the problems. He said that positive relationship with all the neighbouring countries including India is his prime preference. Modi invited PM Nawaz Sharif and other neighbouring heads of government from the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation for today’s swearing-in. The PM’s attendance will be a first in the history of the South Asian neighbours, which have fought three wars since independence in 1947. Before his departure to India, Nawaz Sharif ordered on Sunday the release of 151 Indian prisoners. Officials said PM Nawaz has instructed that 151 Indian prisoners currently detained in Pakistani jails and 57 Indian fishing boats in Pakistani custody should be released on Monday. India’s foreign ministry said Pakistan had notified New Delhi of its intention to free the prisoners as a “goodwill gesture” to coincide with the swearing-in.
