Near Dark - probably my favourite vampire film ever. Compare the vampires in this 1987 box office ghost with what passes for a vampire today in the riseable Twilight films. These guys would eviscerate Edward and his clan for giggles. Bill Paxton lights up the screen as the baddest nastiest redneck bloodsucker youll ever see ably supported by his Aliens co-stars Lance Henriksen and Jenette Goldstein. Trailer trash vampires to the core with the exception of the sweet (and gorgeous) Jenny Wright who takes too much of a shine to Adrian Pasdars Caleb. This is a love story at heart scripted by Kathryn Bigelow (she of Hurt Locker fame) and Eric Red (The Hitcher). Its achingly good and the soundtrack by Tangerine Dream is one of my all-time faves (I still have my vinyl copy). Sharp eyed b-movie buffs will spot Tim Thomerson as Calebs daddy
