Nearing the end of a year that has been most unusual for us we find ourselves in Las Cruces, New Mexico. the mountains that surround this town are incredible as the following pictures will attest. Additionally it is close, relatively speaking, to White Sands National Monument. this monument is considerably more than I expected. It is the largest gypsum sand area in the world with 275 sq miles (not a typo) of gypsum sand dunes. the second is in Mexico with only 8 sq miles. this short video not do this site justice .
