Nearly every man is a firm believer in heredity until his son makes a fool of himself. Our sons are who and what they are because of a combination of nurture and nature. I have seen young men from great families with engaged and noble fathers who have turned out poorly. I have also seen men who have emerged from very dysfunctional homes with absent fathers who have become admirable heroes. Still, setting a good example of authentic Knighthood for our sons will afford them greater opportunities to make something of themselves and life. It gives them an edge, a leg up.
