Nearly everything can be described with a bell curve. I suspect - TopicsExpress

Nearly everything can be described with a bell curve. I suspect that includes the strength of peoples opinions. Most people (yes, including us Kossacks) are subject to some confirmation bias--we tend to interpret new information in a way that confirms what we already believe, but some quantity/quality of contrary new information will persuade us to change our minds. Thats the fat middle of the curve. Towards one thin end are the people who are more highly resistant to persuasion via reason. Thats probably where Boonstra is. (I think most conservative voters fall on this side of the middle.) But almost nobody is truly impossible to persuade. On the other thin end are the hyper-rational who are exceptionally able to put their egos aside and re-evaluate their opinions constantly. Having a little more of this tendency than average makes one, I think, more likely to be liberal.
