Nearly got run over by a car today! Broad daylight, green walk signal, in the middle of crosswalk. Car makes a left turn towards me. I realize the driver isnt slowing down. No time to get out of the way. Yell STOP!!! while slamming my left hand against the hood of the car and pushing down on my cane with my right hand to shoot my legs up and back to keep from getting smashed in the knees. See the drivers shocked face and think to myself I dont want to end up in ICU because of your stupid driving! Car stops just as my feet land in front of it. Driver steers around me and takes off. I am extremely lucky that she at least the presence of mind to hit the brakes when she saw a crippled Asian guy almost kissing her windshield. It was one of those cars with the small engine, short nose and sloped aerodynamic shape, so even if I had managed to throw myself onto the hood to avoid impact like a Hollywood stunt person, I would have just slid down the front of the car and been crushed by the wheels or struct and dragged by the low vertical clearance chassis. Great gas economy and more likely to kill Phil when you try to run him over. Major selling points. Im counting my blessings for coming out of this completely uninjured, but Im also annoyed and pissed off.
