Nebo Nugget @ Noonday “A Prepared Place for Prepared People” Good afternoon. I hope you’re having a thrilling Thursday. In John 14 Jesus says “let not your heart be troubled” because “I go to prepare a place for you.” A common theological debate is what happens to believers when we die. Do we rest in a grave for centuries or millennia until Jesus comes back or do we go to live with Jesus immediately? Opinions vary. One passage that could add some insight is found in Luke 23. Jesus is tried, vilified and crucified. As He hung on the cross between two malefactors, verse 39 (NIV) says “One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at Him: ‘Aren’t you the Christ? Save yourself and us!’” Ironically, Jesus couldn’t save Himself and save us. The only way to save us was for Him to not save Himself! John 10:10 (KJV) says “The thief (Satan) cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that you might have life and have it more abundantly.” Jesus died like a thief to save us from a thief! Thank you Jesus! Now consider Luke 23:40-41: “But the (second) criminal rebuked (the first criminal). ‘Don’t you fear God,’ he said, ‘since you are under the same sentence: We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.’” He who did no wrong was punished for what everyone else did wrong! Thank you Jesus! Finally, Luke 23:42-43: “Then the (second criminal) said, ‘Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.’ Jesus answered him, ‘I tell you the truth, TODAY you will be with me in paradise.’” It looks like a potentially life-long criminal that confessed Christ at the last minute went to Heaven the same day he died. In an awesome twist of fate, his punishment turned out to be a trip to paradise! That’s Amazing Grace! As Christians, we have nothing to fear. We’re on our way somewhere, and it’s somewhere special. Heaven is A Prepared Place for Prepared People! All we need to pack for the trip is our blind faith and His bounteous grace. Got your bags ready??? Have a blessed afternoon and a blissful evening, John A. Wicks, Jr.
