Nebo Nugget @ Noonday “The Next Generation” Good afternoon. I hope your work week is off to a good start. If you’re enjoying Spring Break, I hope you’ll have safe travels and clean fun! In Judges 2, Joshua dies and his generation dies after God helps them to lead Israel out of bondage in Egypt, across the Red Sea, through the wilderness, across the River Jordan to victory in the Promised Land. Let’s see what happens to “The Next Generation” in Joshua 2:10-13 (NIV): “After that whole generation had been gathered to their fathers (passed away), another generation grew up, who knew neither the Lord nor what He had done for Israel. Then the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord and served the Baals (idols). They forsook the Lord, the God of their fathers, who had brought them out of Egypt. They followed and worshipped various gods of the peoples around them. They provoked the Lord to anger because they forsook Him and served Baal and the Ashtoreths.” Like Israel, God has brought our people from a mighty long way. Are we “The Next Generation” that has forgotten what God has done? Are we “The Next Generation” that is embracing evil practices around us rather than the righteous God above us? Where has God brought us from? Well, He’s brought us from cotton sacks to Cadillac’s, from #3 tubs to Jacuzzi tubs, from the back of the bus to a brand new Lexus, from the back door of Massa’s house to the front door of the White House! I know March is not Black History Month, but we need to recall this every month! Sadly, many of the ills in our community suggest that many in this generation don’t remember. The good news is God has blessed us with those towering twins named Grace and Mercy! Consider Judges 2:18: “Whenever the Lord raised up a judge for (Israel), He was with the judge and saved (Israel) out of the hands of their enemies as long as the judge lived; for the Lord had compassion on (Israel) as they groaned under those who oppressed and afflicted them.” Indeed, when we get off track, God has a track record of sending leaders that will help us get back on track! With God’s help, hopefully our generation will be the generation that prays hard enough and works hard enough to get the community train on the right course! “If my people, that are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from Heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” Heal the land, Lord! In Jesus name, please heal the land! Have a rewarding afternoon and a restful evening, John A. Wicks, Jr.
