Necessary C-sections, absolutely, are a life saver. They can save - TopicsExpress

Necessary C-sections, absolutely, are a life saver. They can save the lives of both mom and baby. Before we had them, someone, if not both, was sacrificed. So, while we all need to work to avoid c-sections, we need to be thankful that we have them. And since a C-section is always a possibility, its VERY important to include your birth wishes with regards to such a surgery in your birth plan. Request constant and uninterrupted skin-to-skin contact. Ask that you have a free arm (often both arms can be strapped down) so that you can hold your baby immediately after birth. Request that the baby and your partner accompany you to the recovery room. If you have to pass your baby to someone else briefly, ask that person to stay near and try to continue to talk to your baby. Your baby knows you and sees you and hears you. And might need you even more than if youd had that unmedicated birth. Please see the video below if you dont believe that a baby consistently loves her/his mama from inside to OUT. (to my medical folks: yes, yes. i understand what ive outlined here isnt always going to be possible. but lets shoot for it, right?) Passionately, Lia (the C-section baby)
