Need Advice On Our Sweet Belle So many of you have followed the story on Bella the mare we had to find and rescue after she was sold illegally along with Chaos. She was the one who was hurt so bad from going down on a trailer and could hardly walk. At first I didnt know if I did the right thing by keeping her alive but she continued to fight and made such huge improvement everyday. She was that horse that opened her big beautiful eyes and looked right into your heart. Bella has been with me since I found her and there is talk of a home for her. I hear its a good home and I guess it is what we all hoped for but I cant seem to figure out if I am doing the right thing. Bella needs special care. She needs a stall every night she only goes out for 3 hr sections at a time as she is still recovering. She may or may not ever ride again and we wont know until she fully heals. Her stall has a full bag of shavings a day to help keep any extra pressure of her back leg while it continues to improve. She cannot just go out with just any horse as I am afraid if she ever got kicked we would be back to square one. So Bellas routine consists of getting her feed first thing being let out if her stall where she then roams around my yard. Happily visiting all the paddocks and horses but can only visit over a fence then after about 2 hours and always before I am done chores I usually get bunted lol with her coming back into the barn and looking for a carrot or she just goes finds them herself. Then she happily walks to her stalls goes in turns and starts eating her hay lol latter in the day she goes out to the arena and spends 3 hours with my pregnant mare for more exercise and then we open the gate and she goes and finds her stall again. She will often stop to be hugged or pet by anyone in the barn and then just simply carries on her way. Here is where I need the advice. Having a rescue I bring in train and rehome horses to save them and give them proper loving homes. I adopt them out because it makes room for the next one that needs us. Yes saying goodbye to every horse I home is difficult but I know I have picked a great home and have made a difference for that horse and owner. We do all of this out if pocket so someone like Bella cost us a lot of money every month with her amount if shavings meds etc So why am I not thrilled by this potential new home.... I dont know that I can put Bella on our trailer and say goodbye she has had so many homes in such a short time, she went to hell and back, should have given up and she fought back she has a will to live and recover like I have never seen. Bella has a lot if needs that I know someone else could care for but can I look at Bella and promise her that everything will be ok. Can I be 100% sure that she will be ok. Will she understand that I am not giving up on her and putting her in yet another home. Will Bella understand. Bella is very hard case for me. We spend a lot if money every month to do what we do so I have to think about all the rescues I take in but I guess I need some advice on what to do about this one special mare.
