Need advice from all the wonderful supporters and donors of PFTF. Its a long post but if you could please set aside a few minutes and read, it would mean a lot: Recently, we had a young, pregnant (and homeless) mother apply for assistance. Despite having no income and no address, she has been given every road block possible with her soon to be born baby. Denied Welfare. Denied WIC. Losing all hope, she reached out to us. We were told by the mother that the baby had a stroke in utero. The MRI results showed damage to the babies brain and doctors have told the family that their little one will have many obstacles to overcome, but mom and dad have been researching, preparing, and doing everything they can for their son. If a family is denied WIC, plans to formula feed, and has no income- how will their baby be fed? Formula is expensive. I asked why not breastfeed? Its free, its healthy for the baby, and you will never run out. The mother said her doctor told her that she cannot breastfeed due to having hepatitis C. Weve done some googling and have read otherwise. We cannot give medical advice to any of the families that we help but we wanted to ask if anyone knows the truth behind breastfeeding and hepatitis c. In addition to that, we want any and ALL resources for this mama who is having a baby in just a few short weeks. We cannot imagine what it feels like to be told your baby is going to require Early Intervention, have sensory issues, vision problems, and a few other issues that would rip any mothers heart apart. Mama knows that her baby will have more needs than most babies. She didnt come to us for anything more than the essentials for her baby but we feel like we need to find some answers for her, and for her unborn baby. Advice anyone? How can we guide her in appealing their welfare denial? If you want to PM us and not comment, thats also okay. Thank you!
