Need some advice and need to vent. For the past 3 weeks our daughter has been coughing, you know the extremely loud tef cough that turns heads and makes people run in fear. Well shes not sick, she gets this post nasal drip and any teeny bit of mucous starts the coughing. She is 4 (a few months shy of 5) and in preschool. Im so sick of the comments and looks and stares (or more like glares) and just people thinking Im the worst mother in the world for having her out in public. Shes had her share of hospital stays, pneumonia, rsv, croup, bronchitis, etc so Im very cautious and I know when she is getting sick. Weve dealt with this for years but for some reason Its really irritating me this week and making me sad. Sad for her that shes going to have to deal with this her whole life, she hasnt a care in the world and doesnt see what I see or hear the comments, yet. Her preschool teacher said to me today that maybe I should keep her home. Ive more than explained her condition to them and I do understand that its hard to listen to her coughing but she stayed home all last week and was bouncing off the walls and so excited to get back to seeing her friends. Her coughing usually only occurs in the winter, we live in the north east and our heat being on is really drying things out, but I do run a humidifier at night in her room. She stopped her reflux meds as tests show she no longer has it. She is also on Flovent maintenance inhaler, shes had her tonsils/adenoids removed, allergy testing has shown she has no allergies. Am I missing something?? Is there something else I should be doing? Another inhaler that works better? I feel like albuterol only makes her crazy hyper and cough more. What about something like a nasonex, has anyone used that (she may be too young)? Any tips, tricks, etc would be greatly appreciated. I feel like once the winter coughing starts it lasts until spring, needless to say, Im dreading winter yet again. If you have read this far, thank you and TIA for any advice you may have.
